No other European city has more fountains than Rome. Water flows freely into Rome via ancient and modern aqueducts.
It gushes from monumental, ornate fountains like Trevi or the Four Rivers but also from smaller fountains and “nasoni”.

“Nasoni”, big noses ?!
The stout 3-foot and 200-pound, cast iron cylinder ows its name to its long, bent protuberance that resembles a nose (nasone in Italian means “big nose”), from which ice-cold drinkable spring water flows.

First installed in 1874 , they are to be found all over they city, more than 2000 constantly running fresh, drinkable water.

They are a symbol of the city!

So if you are dying for a chug of cold water, there’s no need to spend a small fortune on environment un-friendly bottled water. All you need to do is look for a nasone and drink all the fresh water you want, it’s free!

How to drink from a nasone?
Follow our instructions: cover the bottom of the spout with your right or left index, the water will spurt from a hole drilled in the top, creating a drinking fountain for quenching thirsts!

After more than 130 years since their first appearance, these fontanelle (drinking fountains) are still part of Roman daily life and are celebrated by locals and tourists alike for their public utility and their charm.

Enjoy our Nasoni!
